Deconstructing gRAPhic design
questioning THE established rules
Laure Giletti [Brussels, BE] presented a collective workshop entitled « Il faut de l’air pour entretenir le feu » (transl.: "It requires air to keep the fire burning"). She first brought us together around texts that deconstruct graphic design and typography such as The Responsible Object: A History of Design Ideology for the Future, Baseline Shift: Untold Stories of Women in Graphic Design History or Does Design Care? After reading these, each group suggested ways to visualise a given graphic design concept. The group of which I was a part, focused on the rules that are rooted and about what makes the foundation, as could be a 50 years old tree.
A cyanotype fabric was made altogether to reflect all the notions to be thought about in the field of graphic design. The works of each group were then inserted between the folds' tissue. In my team, I worked in tandem to produce two normographs: the first, smaller, features an alphabet and some classical shapes, while the second, larger, features inclusive glyphs and more abstract shapes.

Grégor
life of a mysterious traveler
Initiated by the graphic design duo Tradittore, tradutore (Clément Faydit and Rozenn Voyer [Marseille, FR]), this work is based on the narrative of a part of this character's life. My Grégor is the pioneer of podcasts such as Les Pieds sur Terre on France Culture. In the 1980s, he traveled secretly to collect the words of people who wanted to talk to him. Recorded on tapes, they were sent to radio stations.
Inside this (empty) cassette, there are elements that belonged to him: a postcard sent to his mother, a fortune cookie paper, a cigarette end, a Croatian coin, a Berlin transport ticket, an apothek (pharmacy) receipt and an edition of « Dans ma valise, il y a… » (transl.: “In my suitcase, there are…”. The tapes were then sent to three people. As an envelope, a map was used, showing Grégor's eventual route through Europe and the names of the people he encountered written on it.
